Members of Congress Just Announced Their Articles of Impeachment for President Trump

Democratic members of Congress introduced their articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning.

At the start of the press conference, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) said the reason why he and his colleagues are proceeding with the impeachment process is due to “great concern for our country and our Constitution.”

Cohen said they have five articles on which they want to impeach Trump:

  • Obstruction of justice
  • Violation of the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause
  • Violation of the domestic emoluments clause
  • Undermining the federal judiciary
  • Undermining freedom of the press

“We’re calling upon the House to begin impeachment hearings immediately. It’s not a call for a vote, it’s a call for hearings,” Cohen said.

Cohen was joined by Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL), Rep. Al Green (D-TX), and Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY).

The members of Congress insist the reason they want Trump to be removed from office is so the country and the values inscribed within the Constitution are protected.

While this was a first step to get Trump removed from the Oval Office, it seems unlikely it will proceed forward anytime soon, as Republicans control the House and Senate.

“I don’t expect the House Judiciary Committee, which has operated like a branch of the administration, to take up hearings,” Cohen conceded.
