Rex Tillerson proposes cutting 2,300 jobs at State Department

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is proposing to eliminate 2,300 jobs as part of a plan to cut more than a quarter of the State Department’s budget for the next fiscal year, officials said Friday. The plan will almost certainly meet resistance from lawmakers opposing President Donald Trump’s proposal to shrink the size of the federal government.

Tillerson’s proposal reduces the number of new diplomats being hired and includes the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development’s possible consolidation, according to officials briefed on the proposal. The staff cuts would amount to about 3 percent of the department’s roughly 75,000-strong workforce.

The proposal is a response to the Office of Management and Budget’s call to slash the State Department and USAID budgets by 31 percent through deep cuts to foreign aid and other programs, said the officials, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the as-yet unreleased plan and requested anonymity.

Tillerson’s plan would entail a 26 percent budget reduction, they said.

Tillerson was a great choice on Trump’s part. He obviously takes his job very seriously.

The Iranian-born Aslan is the host of CNN’s “Believer” that airs weekly on Sunday nights. The 45-year-old author and religious scholar also called the president a “man baby” in a subsequent tweet in response to a decision by NBC News to not report on Trump’s retweet of a Drudge Report tweet because it contained “unconfirmed information” at the time. The network instead referred to the situation as a “security incident” instead.

“We need to be smart, vigilant and tough,” Trump also tweeted on Saturday evening, leading to Aslan’s initial response. “We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!”

Aslan has stirred controversy on his CNN program, which debuted this year,  An episode in March showed him eating a human brain.

“Want to know what a dead guy’s brain tastes like?” asked Aslan in promoting the episode. “Charcoal. It was burnt to a crisp!”

The Hill has reached out to CNN for comment.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan released a statement Sunday condemning the attackers who killed at least seven people in the city the previous night.

“This is our city… and we will never be cowed by terrorism,” the mayor said.

But they were all angels sent to us by God,” Trump said. “And they all share one title in common, and that is the title of hero. Real heroes. Former Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) warned of the deep state and the attempted coup by intelligence back in February when intelligence officials unmasked and leaked transcripts on Michael Flynn to the liberal media.

On Wednesday Kucinich went on Hannity to warn the country over the dangerous moves by deep state to take down a president and the republic.

“Dennis Kucinich: Well, you have a politicization of the agencies. That is resulting in leaks from anonymous unknown people and the intention is to take down a president. This is very dangerous to America. It is a threat to our republic. It constitutes a clear and present danger to our way of life. What is the motive of these people? Who’s putting these leaks out? Why isn’t somebody coming forward to make that charge and put their name and their reputation behind it instead of attacking through the media and not substantiating their position?

“The president has accepted the recommendation of the attorney general and the deputy attorney general regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer told CNN Tuesday afternoon.

Trump told Comey that he considered him no longer “able to effectively lead the bureau” in a letter terminating him.

“It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission,” the president wrote. “I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.”

A copy of a memo from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, obtained by PBS, argued that the “reputation and credibility” of the FBI had suffered under Comey’s leadership and “affected the entire Department of Justice.”

Rosenstein took Comey to task in the memo for concluding that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should not have been prosecuted for maintaining an unsecure email server in her home, through which classified material had been sent and received, and for publicly announcing his opinion.

“It is not the function of the director to make such an announcement,” Rosenstein wrote in the memo. “At most, the director should have said the FBI had completed its investigation and presented its findings to the attorney general.”

The deputy attorney general also argued that Comey’s release of “derogatory information” about Clinton — whom Comey called “extremely careless” with regard to how she handled classified information in the now-famous news conference in which he made that announcement — was improper.

“It is a textbook example of what federal prosecutors and agents are taught not to do,” he wrote.

According to CNN, Comey, an appointee of President Barack Obama, was set to serve until 2023, and while some considered Trump’s decision questionable due to Comey’s involvement in the left’s never-ending quest to link the president with Russian hackers, even Trump detractors like Sen. Lindsey Graham said he supported the move.

“Given the recent controversies surrounding the director, I believe a fresh start will serve the FBI and the nation well,” Graham said in a statement released to CNN. “I encourage the president to select the most qualified professional available who will serve our nation’s interests.”

Comey has also been blamed — along with Russian boogeymen — for Hillary Clinton’s loss in last year’s presidential election, which ought to leave some Democrats stuck between a rock and a hard place. Do they defend the man they claim helped cost Clinton the election, or do they support a move made by a president they despise?

I’m willing to bet they go with the former, but only time will tell.
